"Original equipment manufacturer", or OEM manufacturer (supplier) - is a company that produces a product and sells it to another company. The latter uses this product to complete its own production range under its own brand, renames the product (rebranding) or repackages it.

Thus, the OEM manufacturer adds new features to the product before selling it, changes the label to its own or incorporates the purchased goods into its own products. The OEM relationships are mostly built by the companies that have a well-recognisable brand and image.

They are willing to manufacture a range of products, but for various reasons they do not have the production facilities or the technologies to do so.

These reasons may be the following: economic inappropriateness of investing in the high-tech sector or aversion to risks associated with the purchase of production capacity and a possible economic downturn.

ODM (Original Design Manufacturer), or ODM manufacturer (supplier) is a company that manufactures and (or) develops a product based on the technical specifications of another company under whose name the products are sold. In this case, the ownership rights for the manufactured goods belong to the ODM manufacturer.

This model of cooperation is widely used in international trade where production costs need to be reduced by using cheaper labour, reducing transport costs and locating production facilities close to the market.
